MAPK6

Q16659

Scaffold protein that functions as a component of amultimolecular complex involved in histone mRNA 3'-end processing.Specific component of the tight junction (TJ) plaque, but mightnot be an exclusively junctional component. May have a house-keeping rule. Is involved in pre-mRNA polyadenylation. EnhancesSSU72 phosphatase activity. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:16230528,ECO:0000269|PubMed:20861839}. Atypical MAPK protein. Phosphorylates microtubule-associated protein 2 (MAP2) and MAPKAPK5. The precise role of thecomplex formed with MAPKAPK5 is still unclear, but the complexfollows a complex set of phosphorylation events: upon interactionwith atypical MAPKAPK5, ERK3/MAPK6 is phosphorylated at Ser-189and then mediates phosphorylation and activation of MAPKAPK5,which in turn phosphorylates ERK3/MAPK6. May promote entry in thecell cycle (By similarity). {ECO:0000250}.
