HIPK3

Q9H422

Appears to regulate cell growth through interactionswith the extracellular matrix and cytokines. Binds calcium andcopper, several types of collagen, albumin, thrombospondin, PDGFand cell membranes. There are two calcium binding sites; an acidicdomain that binds 5 to 8 Ca(2+) with a low affinity and an EF-handloop that binds a Ca(2+) ion with a high affinity. Serine/threonine-protein kinase involved intranscription regulation, apoptosis and steroidogenic geneexpression. Phosphorylates JUN and RUNX2. Seems to negativelyregulate apoptosis by promoting FADD phosphorylation. Enhancesandrogen receptor-mediated transcription. May act as atranscriptional corepressor for NK homeodomain transcriptionfactors. The phosphorylation of NR5A1 activates SF1 leading toincreased steroidogenic gene expression upon cAMP signalingpathway stimulation. In osteoblasts, supports transcriptionactivation: phosphorylates RUNX2 that synergizes with SPEN/MINT toenhance FGFR2-mediated activation of the osteocalcin FGF-responsive element (OCFRE). {ECO:0000269|PubMed:14766760,ECO:0000269|PubMed:17210646}.
