Thought to act as molecular guidance cue in cellularmigration, and function appears to be mediated by interaction withroundabout homolog receptors. During neural development involvedin axonal navigation at the ventral midline of the neural tube andprojection of axons to different regions (By similarity). SLIT1and SLIT2 together seem to be essential for midline guidance inthe forebrain by acting as repulsive signal preventinginappropriate midline crossing by axons projecting from theolfactory bulb. {ECO:0000250}.
