Tumor suppressor. It blocks the growth, invasion, andmetastatic properties of mammary tumors. As it does not undergothe S (stressed) to R (relaxed) conformational transitioncharacteristic of active serpins, it exhibits no serine proteaseinhibitory activity. Cadherins are calcium-dependent cell adhesion proteins.They preferentially interact with themselves in a homophilicmanner in connecting cells; cadherins may thus contribute to thesorting of heterogeneous cell types.
