Protease that catalyzes two essential functions in theSUMO pathway: processing of full-length SUMO3 to its mature formand deconjugation of SUMO2 and SUMO3 from targeted proteins. Hasweak proteolytic activity against full-length SUMO1 or SUMO1conjugates. Required for cell division.{ECO:0000269|PubMed:16608850, ECO:0000269|PubMed:16738315}. Regulatory subunit of the calcium activated potassiumKCNMA1 (maxiK) channel. Modulates the calcium sensitivity andgating kinetics of KCNMA1, thereby contributing to KCNMA1 channeldiversity. Alters the functional properties of the currentexpressed by the KCNMA1 channel. Isoform 2, isoform 3 and isoform4 partially inactivate the current of KCNBMA. Isoform 4 induces afast and incomplete inactivation of KCNMA1 channel that isdetectable only at large depolarizations. In contrast, isoform 1does not induce detectable inactivation of KCNMA1. Two or moresubunits of KCNMB3 are required to block the KCNMA1 tetramer.{ECO:0000269|PubMed:10766764, ECO:0000269|PubMed:10864947}.
