This is the non-catalytic component of the activeenzyme, which catalyzes the hydrolysis of ATP coupled with theexchange of Na(+) and K(+) ions across the plasma membrane. Theexact function of the beta-2 subunit is not known. Mediates cell adhesion of neurons and astrocytes, andpromotes neurite outgrowth. {ECO:0000250}.
