IL26

Q9NPH9

This is the non-catalytic component of the activeenzyme, which catalyzes the hydrolysis of ATP coupled with theexchange of Na(+) and K(+) ions across the plasma membrane. Thebeta subunit regulates, through assembly of alpha/betaheterodimers, the number of sodium pumps transported to the plasmamembrane. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:19694409}. Involved in cell adhesion and establishing epithelialcell polarity. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:19694409}. May play a role in local mechanisms of mucosal immunityand seems to have a proinflammatory function. May play a role ininflammatory bowel disease. Activates STAT1 and STAT3, MAPK1/3(ERK1/2), JUN and AKT. Induces expression of SOCS3, TNF-alpha andIL-8, secretion of IL-8 and IL-10 and surface expression of ICAM1.Decreases proliferation of intestinal epithelial cells. Isinhibited by heparin. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:14764663,ECO:0000269|PubMed:15178681, ECO:0000269|PubMed:18483078}.
