Plays a role in pre-mRNA alternative splicing byregulating spliceosome assembly. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:9447963}. E3 ubiquitin ligase that catalyzes the direct transferof ubiquitin from E2 ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme to a specificsubstrate. In response to bacterial infection, negativelyregulates the phagocyte oxidative burst by controlling theturnover of the NADPH oxidase complex subunits. Promotesmonoubiquitination of CYBA and 'Lys-48'-linked polyubiquitinationand degradation of CYBB NADPH oxidase catalytic subunits, bothessential for the generation of antimicrobial reactive oxygenspecies. Involved in the maintenance of cholesterol homeostasis.In response to high sterol concentrations ubiquitinates HMGCR, arate-limiting enzyme in cholesterol biosynthesis, and targets itfor degradation. The interaction with INSIG1 is required for thisfunction.
