Involved in transport from the endoplasmic reticulum tothe Golgi apparatus (By similarity). Required to maintain SEC16Alocalization at discrete locations on the ER membrane perhaps bypreventing its dissociation. SAR1A-GTP-dependent assembly ofSEC16A on the ER membrane forms an organized scaffold definingendoplasmic reticulum exit sites (ERES). {ECO:0000250,ECO:0000269|PubMed:17005010}. Component of the heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoprotein(hnRNP) complexes which provide the substrate for the processingevents that pre-mRNAs undergo before becoming functional,translatable mRNAs in the cytoplasm. Plays a role in theregulation of alternative splicing events. Binds G-rich sequencesin pre-mRNAs and keeps target RNA in an unfolded state.{ECO:0000269|PubMed:20526337}.
