Q15256

This protein binds the cAMP response element (CRE)(consensus: 5'-GTGACGT[AC][AG]-3'), a sequence present in manyviral and cellular promoters. Binds to the Tax-responsive element(TRE) of HTLV-I. Mediates PKA-induced stimulation of CRE-reportergenes. Represses the expression of FTH1 and other antioxidantdetoxification genes. Triggers cell proliferation andtransformation. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:18794154,ECO:0000269|PubMed:20980392}. Sequesters mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPKs)such as MAPK1, MAPK3 and MAPK14 in the cytoplasm in an inactiveform. The MAPKs bind to a dephosphorylated kinase interactingmotif, phosphorylation of which by the protein kinase A complexreleases the MAPKs for activation and translocation into thenucleus (By similarity). {ECO:0000250}.
