CENPT

Q96BT3

Component of the CENPA-NAC (nucleosome-associated)complex, a complex that plays a central role in assembly ofkinetochore proteins, mitotic progression and chromosomesegregation. The CENPA-NAC complex recruits the CENPA-CAD(nucleosome distal) complex and may be involved in incorporationof newly synthesized CENPA into centromeres. Part of a nucleosome-associated complex that binds specifically to histone H3-containing nucleosomes at the centromere, as opposed tonucleosomes containing CENPA. Component of the heterotetramericCENP-T-W-S-X complex that binds and supercoils DNA, and plays animportant role in kinetochore assembly. CENPT has a fundamentalrole in kinetochore assembly and function. It is one of the innerkinetochore proteins, with most further proteins bindingdownstream. Required for normal chromosome organization and normalprogress through mitosis. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:16716197,ECO:0000269|PubMed:21529714, ECO:0000269|PubMed:21695110}.
