Protein phosphatase that associates with over 200regulatory proteins to form highly specific holoenzymes whichdephosphorylate hundreds of biological targets. Plays a role in maintaining thefidelity of synaptic transmission in neocortical GABAergicinterneurons by generating action potential (AP) repolarization atnerve terminals, thus reducing spike-evoked calcium influx andGABA neurotransmitter release. Required for long-rangesynchronization of gamma oscillations over distance in theneocortex.
