Coreceptor for SEMA3A and SEMA3F. Necessary forsignaling by class 3 semaphorins and subsequent remodeling of thecytoskeleton. Plays a role in axon guidance in the developingnervous system. Regulates the migration of sympathetic neurons,but not of neural crest precursors. Required for normal dendritespine morphology in pyramidal neurons. May play a role inregulating semaphorin-mediated programmed cell death in thedeveloping nervous system. Class 3 semaphorins bind to a complexcomposed of a neuropilin and a plexin. The plexin modulates theaffinity of the complex for specific semaphorins, and itscytoplasmic domain is required for the activation of down-streamsignaling events in the cytoplasm. Catalyzes the transfer of a two-carbon ketol group froma ketose donor to an aldose acceptor, via a covalent intermediatewith the cofactor thiamine pyrophosphate. {ECO:0000250}.
