Accessory subunit of the mitochondrial membranerespiratory chain NADH dehydrogenase (Complex I), that is believedto be not involved in catalysis. Complex I functions in thetransfer of electrons from NADH to the respiratory chain. Theimmediate electron acceptor for the enzyme is believed to beubiquinone. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:27626371}. Participates in the primary piRNA biogenesis pathway andis required during spermatogenesis to repress transposableelements and prevent their mobilization, which is essential forthe germline integrity. The piRNA metabolic process mediates therepression of transposable elements during meiosis by formingcomplexes composed of piRNAs and Piwi proteins and govern themethylation and subsequent repression of transposons. Required forthe final steps of primary piRNA biogenesis by participating inthe processing of 31-37 nt intermediates into mature piRNAs. Mayact in pi-bodies and piP-bodies by transferring piRNA precursorsor intermediates to or between these granules.{ECO:0000250|UniProtKB:Q80VL1}.
