Accessory subunit of the mitochondrial membranerespiratory chain NADH dehydrogenase (Complex I), that is believednot to be involved in catalysis. Complex I functions in thetransfer of electrons from NADH to the respiratory chain. Theimmediate electron acceptor for the enzyme is believed to beubiquinone. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:27626371}. ALDHs play a major role in the detoxification ofalcohol-derived acetaldehyde. They are involved in the metabolismof corticosteroids, biogenic amines, neurotransmitters, and lipidperoxidation.
