Nuclear receptor coregulator that can have bothcoactivator and corepressor functions. Interacts with nuclearreceptors for steroids (ESR1 and ESR2) independently of thesteroid binding domain (AF-2) of the ESR receptors, and with theorphan nuclear receptor NR1D2. Involved in the coactivation ofnuclear steroid receptors (ER) as well as the corepression of MYCin response to 17-beta-estradiol (E2).{ECO:0000269|PubMed:15073177}. Growth factor that plays an essential role in theregulation of embryonic development, cell proliferation, cellmigration, survival and chemotaxis. Potent mitogen andchemoattractant for cells of mesenchymal origin. Required fornormal skeleton formation during embryonic development, especiallyfor normal development of the craniofacial skeleton and for normaldevelopment of the palate. Required for normal skin morphogenesisduring embryonic development. Plays an important role in woundhealing, where it appears to be involved in three stages:inflammation, proliferation and remodeling. Plays an importantrole in angiogenesis and blood vessel development. Involved infibrotic processes, in which transformation of interstitialfibroblasts into myofibroblasts plus collagen deposition occurs.The CUB domain has mitogenic activity in coronary artery smoothmuscle cells, suggesting a role beyond the maintenance of thelatency of the PDGF domain.
