Transcriptional repressor. MXI1 binds with MAX to form asequence-specific DNA-binding protein complex which recognizes thecore sequence 5'-CAC[GA]TG-3'. MXI1 thus antagonizes MYCtranscriptional activity by competing for MAX. Membrane-cytoskeleton-associated protein that promotesthe assembly of the spectrin-actin network. Plays a role in actinfilament capping (PubMed:23836506). Binds to calmodulin.{ECO:0000269|PubMed:23836506}.
