Phosphatase that acts on lipids with a phosphoinositolheadgroup. Has phosphatase activity towards phosphatidylinositol3-phosphate and phosphatidylinositol 3,5-bisphosphate. Essential for synapsis surveillance during meioticprophase via the recruitment of ATR activity. Plays a key role inthe male mid-pachytene checkpoint and the female meiotic prophasecheckpoint: required for efficient build-up of ATR activity onunsynapsed chromosome regions, a process believed to form thebasis of meiotic silencing of unsynapsed chromatin (MSUC) andmeiotic prophase quality control in both sexes. Required for theDNA double-strand break-independent, BRCA1-dependent activation ofATR on the sex chromosomes that is essential for normal sex bodyformation (By similarity). {ECO:0000250}.
