Main function of each fusion partner protein. (from UniProt) |
Hgene | Tgene |
MKI67 | SORBS1 |
Required to maintain individual mitotic chromosomesdispersed in the cytoplasm following nuclear envelope disassembly(PubMed:27362226). Associates with the surface of the mitoticchromosome, the perichromosomal layer, and covers a substantialfraction of the chromosome surface (PubMed:27362226). Preventschromosomes from collapsing into a single chromatin mass byforming a steric and electrostatic charge barrier: the protein hasa high net electrical charge and acts as a surfactant, dispersingchromosomes and enabling independent chromosome motility(PubMed:27362226). Binds DNA, with a preference for supercoiledDNA and AT-rich DNA (PubMed:10878551). Does not contribute to theinternal structure of mitotic chromosomes (By similarity). Mayplay a role in chromatin organization (PubMed:24867636). It ishowever unclear whether it plays a direct role in chromatinorganization or whether it is an indirect consequence of itsfunction in maintaining mitotic chromosomes dispersed (Probable).{ECO:0000250|UniProtKB:E9PVX6, ECO:0000269|PubMed:10878551,ECO:0000269|PubMed:24867636, ECO:0000269|PubMed:27362226}. |
