C1orf101

Essential for embryonic kidney development. Plays animportant role in the compact adhesion between mesenchymal cellsadjacent to the ureteric buds, possibly by interacting with MYH10.This could lead to the establishment of the basolateral integrityof the mesenchyme and the polarized expression of ITGA8, whichmaintains the GDNF expression required for further ureteric budattraction. Although it seems to lack ATPase activity it isconstitutively associated with microtubules (By similarity).{ECO:0000250}. Lectin that binds to various sugars: galactose > mannose= fucose > N-acetylglucosamine > N-acetylgalactosamine(PubMed:10224141). Acts as a chemoattractant, probably involved inthe regulation of cell migration (PubMed:28301481).{ECO:0000269|PubMed:10224141, ECO:0000269|PubMed:28301481}.
