Carrier protein. Binds to some hydrophobic molecules andpromotes their transfer between the different cellular sites.Binds with high affinity to alpha-tocopherol. Also binds with aweaker affinity to other tocopherols and to tocotrienols. May havea transcriptional activatory activity via its association withalpha-tocopherol. Probably recognizes and binds some squalenestructure, suggesting that it may regulate cholesterolbiosynthesis by increasing the transfer of squalene to a metabolicactive pool in the cell.
