Transcription factor. Involved in SHH-dependent neuralpatterning. Together with NKX2-2 and NKX6-1 acts to restrict thegeneration of motor neurons to the appropriate region of theneural tube. Belongs to the class I proteins of neuronalprogenitor factors, which are repressed by SHH signals. Involvedin the transcriptional repression of MNX1 in non-motor neuroncells (By similarity). {ECO:0000250}. Cellular myosin that appears to play a role incytokinesis, cell shape, and specialized functions such assecretion and capping. During cell spreading, plays an importantrole in cytoskeleton reorganization, focal contacts formation (inthe margins but not the central part of spreading cells), andlamellipodial retraction; this function is mechanicallyantagonized by MYH10. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:20052411}.
