RNA-binding factor that recruits target transcripts tocytoplasmic protein-RNA complexes (mRNPs). This transcript'caging' into mRNPs allows mRNA transport and transient storage.It also modulates the rate and location at which targettranscripts encounter the translational apparatus and shields themfrom endonuclease attacks or microRNA-mediated degradation (Bysimilarity). Binds to the 5'-UTR of the insulin-like growth factor2 (IGF2) mRNAs. Binding is isoform-specific. Binds to beta-actin/ACTB and MYC transcripts. {ECO:0000250,ECO:0000269|PubMed:23640942, ECO:0000269|PubMed:9891060}. IFN-induced antiviral protein which inhibits the entryof viruses to the host cell cytoplasm, permitting endocytosis, butpreventing subsequent viral fusion and release of viral contentsinto the cytosol. Active against multiple viruses, includinginfluenza A virus, SARS coronavirus (SARS-CoV), Marburg virus(MARV), Ebola virus (EBOV), Dengue virus (DNV), West Nile virus(WNV), human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) and hepatitis Cvirus (HCV). Can inhibit: influenza virus hemagglutinin protein-mediated viral entry, MARV and EBOV GP1,2-mediated viral entry andSARS-CoV S protein-mediated viral entry. Also implicated in celladhesion and control of cell growth and migration. Plays a keyrole in the antiproliferative action of IFN-gamma either byinhibiting the ERK activation or by arresting cell growth in G1phase in a p53-dependent manner.
