This protein is a component of the heterogeneous nuclearribonucleoprotein (hnRNP) complexes which provide the substratefor the processing events that pre-mRNAs undergo before becomingfunctional, translatable mRNAs in the cytoplasm. Mediates pre-mRNAalternative splicing regulation. Inhibits, together with CUGBP1,insulin receptor (IR) pre-mRNA exon 11 inclusion in myoblast.Binds to the IR RNA. Binds poly(RG). {ECO:0000269|PubMed:11003644,ECO:0000269|PubMed:16946708}. Chaperone that expresses an ATPase activity. Involved inmaintaining mitochondrial function and polarization, downstream ofPINK1 and mitochondrial complex I. Is a negative regulator ofmitochondrial respiration able to modulate the balance betweenoxidative phosphorylation and aerobic glycolysis. The impact ofTRAP1 on mitochondrial respiration is probably mediated bymodulation of mitochondrial SRC and inhibition of SDHA.{ECO:0000269|PubMed:23525905, ECO:0000269|PubMed:23564345,ECO:0000269|PubMed:23747254}.
