Adapter protein that provides a critical link betweencell surface growth factor receptors and the Ras signalingpathway. Isoform 2 does not bind to phosphorylated epidermalgrowth factor receptor (EGFR) but inhibits EGF-inducedtransactivation of a RAS-responsive element. Isoform 2 acts as adominant negative protein over GRB2 and by suppressingproliferative signals, may trigger active programmed cell death. Stress-induced protein that, when overexpressed,promotes formation of intracellular vacuoles followed by celldeath. May be involved in the cytoplasmic vacuolization of acinarcells during the early stage of acute pancreatitis. Plays a rolein the initial stages of the autophagic process through itsinteraction with BECN1 (By similarity). Involved in cell-celladhesion.
