Guanine nucleotide-binding proteins (G proteins) areinvolved as a modulator or transducer in various transmembranesignaling systems. The beta and gamma chains are required for theGTPase activity, for replacement of GDP by GTP, and for G protein-effector interaction. Required for formation of the sperm connecting pieceduring spermiogenesis. Sperm connecting piece is essential forlinking the developing flagellum to the head during latespermiogenesis. May be involved in myosin-based microfilamenttransport through interaction with myosin subunits.{ECO:0000250|UniProtKB:Q3U6K5}.
