Catalyzes the initial reaction in O-linkedoligosaccharide biosynthesis, the transfer of an N-acetyl-D-galactosamine residue to a serine or threonine residue on theprotein receptor. Has a broad spectrum of substrates for peptidessuch as EA2, Muc5AC, Muc1a, Muc1b and Muc7.{ECO:0000269|PubMed:9295285}. Cell type-specific subunit of the general transcriptionfactor TFIID that may function as a gene-selective coactivator incertain cells. TFIID is a multimeric protein complex that plays acentral role in mediating promoter responses to various activatorsand repressors. TAF4B is a transcriptional coactivator of thep65/RELA NF-kappa-B subunit. Involved in the activation of asubset of antiapoptotic genes including TNFAIP3. May be involvedin regulating folliculogenesis. Through interaction withOCBA/POU2AF1, acts as a coactivator of B-cell-specifictranscription.
