Lectin that binds to various sugars: galactose > mannose= fucose > N-acetylglucosamine > N-acetylgalactosamine(PubMed:10224141). Acts as a chemoattractant, probably involved inthe regulation of cell migration (PubMed:28301481).{ECO:0000269|PubMed:10224141, ECO:0000269|PubMed:28301481}. Integrin alpha-8/beta-1 functions in the genesis ofkidney and probably of other organs by regulating the recruitmentof mesenchymal cells into epithelial structures. It recognizes thesequence R-G-D in a wide array of ligands including TNC, FN1, SPP1TGFB1, TGFB3 and VTN. NPNT is probably its functional ligand inkidney genesis. Neuronal receptor for TNC it mediates cell-cellinteractions and regulates neurite outgrowth of sensory and motorneurons. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:12415008,ECO:0000269|PubMed:15721307}.
