Modulates the assembly and organization of themicrotubule cytoskeleton, and probably plays a role in regulatingthe orientation of the mitotic spindle and the orientation of theplane of cell division. Required for normal proliferation ofneuronal progenitor cells in the developing brain and for normalbrain development. Does not affect neuron migration per se.{ECO:0000250|UniProtKB:Q05BC3}. Besides it's role as a glycolytic enzyme, mammalian GPIcan function as a tumor-secreted cytokine and an angiogenic factor(AMF) that stimulates endothelial cell motility. GPI is also aneurotrophic factor (Neuroleukin) for spinal and sensory neurons.{ECO:0000269|PubMed:11004567, ECO:0000269|PubMed:11437381}.
