Q53FZ2

Threonine kinase that regulates protein synthesis bycontrolling the rate of peptide chain elongation. Upon activationby a variety of upstream kinases including AMPK or TRPM7,phosphorylates the elongation factor EEF2 at a single site, renders it unable to bind ribosomes and thus inactive. In turn, the rate of protein synthesis is reduced.{ECO:0000269|PubMed:14709557, ECO:0000269|PubMed:9144159}. Has medium-chain fatty acid:CoA ligase activity withbroad substrate specificity (in vitro). Acts on acids from C(4) toC(11) and on the corresponding 3-hydroxy- and 2,3- or 3,4-unsaturated acids (in vitro) (By similarity). {ECO:0000250}.
